Why Jesus?

Greetings, and welcome!

We’re glad you are visiting our website, and know that your visit isn’t an accident. We want to help people come to life and to experience the radical grace that God offers through a relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.

Who is Jesus?

Check out this video for a brief description of the impact He can have in your life.

God has a wonderful purpose and destiny for you.

  • God loves you!    No matter where you are in your life, no matter what you have done, or what is wrong in your life, God loves you and will meet you where you are. Because God is love, He treasures relationships. At St. Lucas, we want to welcome you into our church family and get to know you better. For “In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” (Ephesians 1:5-6 ESV).
  • You were made for His family!    Every life has a purpose. God is at work in the world, and he wants you to join him. God wants you to share His love where you are. As a student, mother, teacher, salesman, manager, or whatever you do, God invites you to participate in the greatest, largest, most diverse, and most significant cause in history – His kingdom.

But there is a problem…

Although God has great purposes for us, we have sinned against Him by breaking His commandments, making it impossible to fulfill the eternal purposes God has in mind for us. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23 ESV)

And because of our sin, we are spiritually dead and separated from God, unable to fulfill His purposes for us. In fact, if we remain as we are, as unforgiven sinners, we will spend eternity apart from God and ultimately be lost. “For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23 ESV)

But God provided a solution!

We have sinned, we’ve lost our way, and are sentenced to death as a result, but God loves us too deeply to leave us lost. Instead, He sent His one and only son, Jesus to earth, to be our Savior, our Rescuer, our Redeemer. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 ESV)

Just what did Jesus accomplish when He died on the cross? By living a perfect and sinless life, He paid the penalty for our sins. And because He has paid for our sin, He offers us forgiveness, a fresh start, a clean slate. He offers us new life in Himself!  “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 ESV)

What must we do to be saved?

God lovingly and openly adopts people into His eternal family – anyone and everyone who comes to Him by faith in Jesus.  When we believe in Christ and what He has done for us, we become His children and heirs of His Kingdom.  We can never do enough good works to earn a place in God’s family.  It is given to us as a free gift by His grace. “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved…” (Ephesians 2:4-5 ESV)

To receive Jesus today, believe that He died to save you and rose again to give you eternal life.
